    We begin with an otoscopy to check the ear canal and confirm wax is the cause.

Is microsuction safe?
Yes. Microsuction is the method used in hospital ENT departments, no water enters the ear, so there's no risk of infection from irrigation. All procedures are carried out by Livingston, an HCPC-registered audiologist with over 9 years of clinical experience.
Will it hurt?
No. Most patients describe it as a slightly unusual sensation, a gentle suction noise, but never painful. We work slowly and check in with you throughout.
How long does the appointment take?
Plan for around 30 minutes. The microsuction itself usually takes 15–20 minutes, plus time for inspection and aftercare advice.
What if there's no wax to remove?
We only charge £35 if no wax is found, and we'll include a free hearing health check while you're with us so the appointment is still worth your time.
Should I soften the wax beforehand?
Yes, we recommend olive oil spray (e.g. Earol) twice a day for 3–5 days before your appointment. It makes the procedure quicker and more comfortable.
Can I still hear after the appointment?
Most patients hear an immediate improvement. If hearing is still muffled afterwards it may indicate underlying hearing loss. We can book you in for a hearing test to investigate.
